The island of Rømø sits about 10 km out in the North Sea, yet it’s easily accessible via a free causeway from the mainland – no ferry, no waiting, just smooth travel to the coast.
Nature, Beach, and Experiences for Everyone
Rømø is home to one of Europe’s widest beaches – up to 3 km wide and stretching 17 km in length. There's plenty of space for sunbathing, playing, and exploring. The beach is ideal for swimming in the refreshing North Sea and is also well suited for young children.
Uniquely, you can drive your car right down to the water’s edge. Certain areas of the beach are marked for kite buggy riding, land sailing, and windsurfing. Car-free zones are also available for those seeking peace and quiet.
Bike and Hiking Adventures from Your Doorstep
Rømø boasts a well-maintained network of cycle paths, making it safe and easy to explore the island with the whole family. Whether by foot, bike, or stroller – nature is just steps away from the campsite, with access to forests, dunes, and scenic heathlands.
Unique Culture and History Nearby
Just a few hundred meters from Rømø Familiecamping, you’ll find the National Museum’s Kommandørgården – a historic captain’s house telling the story of the wealthy whaling captains who sailed with Dutch and German ships in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Many of these "commanders" are buried at Rømø Church, famous for its beautiful model ships and gravestones – a fascinating glimpse into local maritime history.
Annual Highlight: The Rømø Kite Festival
Every year, during the first weekend of September, the beach transforms into a magical sky full of colour and creativity. The Rømø Kite Festival draws visitors from near and far – a fantastic event for both children and adults.
